about

Since I was a kid, I've always wanted to be a "rockstar". Growing up watching Nine Inch Nails DVDs, I knew exactly what I wanted to do for a living. I started off by falling in love with playing drums, not knowing much about theory, I mainly covered songs and such with no idea what "Tempo" was or anything. In high school I stumbled upon a loving friends group that consisted of great people who were all better musicians then I was. Among those friends, there were two main bands: "Crimson Arrow" and later "Rome Hero Foxes". Following my friends to their shows, I always was wishing that I was talented enough to join them on stage. Eventually, I had finally got that chance. In 2013 Rome Hero had a string of shows coming up where they needed a fill in on bass. I had never played bass in my life but I forced myself to learn the set list within a week, then played my first show. Over the next few years I continued to be their fill in bass player (didn't quite call my self a bassist). I absolutely loved playing bass with those guys for all that time, and I miss it every day. I got lucky and did two last tours with them in 2016, during this time is when I decided its time to start my own project but, I couldn't do it alone.

Trent and I met while playing for another band called "No Where Is Home" . We both decided to bail from that and start our own project. We started writing these songs in the summer of 2016. In November of 2016, while I was on tour with Rome Hero Foxes, we stopped of in Carmel, CA to do a Spirit Vision Session with Ben Rosett from Strawberry Girls. I immediately decided that Trent and I should record our debut ep with Ben at his studio. In March 2017, Trent and I flew out to Carmel for a week to track the album. I was unfortunately unprepared to track vocals at the time so only instrumentals were tracked. One year later, in March 2018 Tommy Morris (a good friend to the band and once a live member) , Trent, and I went into a studio with Jon Januhowski in Houston to finish up the vocals.

"Black Bear" is something I'd like to think of as a long time coming. An initial break into the world of music from our two different musical backgrounds. It's something special to me. Trent and I wanted to do this right, and I believe we created something that reflects our max potential at the time. We will continue to grow and evolve for our future releases but, for now, we present to you: "Black Bear".

The writing behind this EP reflects a route in my head. A journey away from chaos, everything that's going on in today's world becoming too much. A path through the desert and woods, leading high up into the mountains, away from everything, with some trouble along the way.
